Several months ago, I bought a Singer household machine, without a cabinet.  Shortly thereafter, I found a good deal on a cabinet, and set about installing the machine in the cabinet

The machine had a foot pedal attached, so I didn't check the wiring in the cabinet itself, or the knee lever.  Now, I had a couple of Singer 237s, one with the foot pedal, and one with the short wire for plugging into the cabinet wiring.  Fortunately, I didn't put either of the 237s into the cabinet.

I eventually gave the machine and cabinet to someone who appeared to need it.  In order to get it in the car safely, I removed the machine, and finally examined the wiring in the cabinet.

The picture isn't the best, but the cracked insulation is apparent.  I don't think I'll be buying any more household machines any time soon.

I've got a Singer 111W154 that needs a lot of TLC to clean it and get it up and running.  It was running fine until it was stored in a barn for a while.  It's at zip code 25425, and it's free to a good home.
